Halloween Faces: Vampire

Hello Loves. Today is day two of my nail faces tutorials. So here we go with the creatures of the night, the vampire. I made these ones sparkle (yep twilight fans enjoy) anyone who doesn't like sparkling vampires please feel free to skip the sparkle step.

First I did two coats of a white polish. I used China Glaze Snow.

Next for that sparkle effect I laid a coat of an opal-ish polish over the white. I used OPI Room Service.

For hair I took my detail brush (aka my old eyeliner brush turned nail brush) and used black polish to create the V hair widows peak. And I added a black line for a mouth and lines for eye brows.

I added the red eyes with my dotting tool. Anyone could use a toothpick or pin head for this step as well.

Before adding the black dot I cleaned off my dotting tool. As in my last tutorial I carefully dotted the black inside of the red making sure not to press down all the way so that the black dot didn't cover up the red.

Finally I added a small white fang on each side of the mouth (insert fail face here for missing the picture before this step) and then a small red smudge on each fang to make them look freshly used.

I waited about 10 minutes to let things dry and added a nice thick coat of Seche Vite. I know in these pictures the shimmer doesn't show up well, but in person I can see it. Darn my crap camera, and the sun not being willing to show its face long enough for me to take a sunlight pic. Tonight I get to take these off and work on tomorrows tutorial. So stay tuned!

Halloween Faces: Frankie

Hi everyone.. I was watching You Tube videos last night and stumbled upon a great video. (see below) It got me to thinking, hey I'm going to do that! But not only did I think that, but my creative wheels started turning and I started thinking of other monster faces I could do in a similar fashion. So for the next couple of days I am going to post a tutorial each day on a different monster face.

The video shows you how to do this, but I will show you guys how I did it as well.

First I took my base coated nails and did two coats of China Glaze Entourage.

Next I took a black nail polish and doted the tips of my nails with the brush in a faux french tip. As you can see in the video she used another brush but I didn't see the point in adding more mess when I could just as easily use the brush end.

Then I drew my lines for the eyebrows and mouth line with my liner brush. I use an old pointed eye liner brush for nail art. Works great. I don't have any art deco nail polishes.

Next I took my nail dotting tool and made white dots for the eyes.

I waited a few minutes and let the white dry, then I carefully added a smaller black dot inside of the white dot. To achieve this make sure you barely touch the white dot with the dotting tool. If you press down all the way like you did to make the white you will more than likely cover the whole white dot.

Again I waited a minute and then added a top coat. The waiting is a good idea so as not to smear your dots. Now I have happy Frankensteins on all of my nails.

My First Foil: Geisha Plum

 

My kitty polish peeled off. Litter-ally. Yeah lame play on words there, but in all seriousness the polish peeled off of all of my nails but my thumbs. Not exactly what I wanted to wake up to. So after I got my kids on the school bus I decided to stop being intimidated by nail foils and try them. They have been sitting in my nail tool box for over a month. I kept looking at them, thinking I really ought to try those out, and walking away thinking they would be too much work. Nope I was WRONG! They were actually pretty easy, though they are not as cut and dry as everyone on YouTube seems to make them out to be.

I sat and watched I think 4 or 5 videos before attempting this. I would recommend anyone who tries these for the first time to do the same. I got some good tips but think I may post a small tutorial on how to get these on better once I figure it out myself. For a first try these turned out OK. If I had done something with a pattern I would have been disappointed.

With just the foils.

Then because I thought the foil looked a bit tacky with all the bald spots and broken areas, I added halloween stamping to it. Now it looks more intentional with my voodoo guy and bloody drips.
